NOfearYEAR.com Episode #4

NOfearYEAR.com Episode #4

Read Judges 6 & 7 to get the full context of what Jason will be discussing about Gideon in this episode…

In Judges 6, Gideon is called by God to lead an army and save Israel from their enemy, the Midianites.

Similar to Moses (see Episode #1), Gideon raises his doubts as to why God has chosen him, the weakest in his family (Judges 6:15). God responds similarly, stating to Gideon, “I will be with you.” (v. 16) Gideon asks for a sign, which God grants.

After the first sign, he was willing to obey. Even though he was afraid (v.27), he still obeyed God. His heart wanted to obey God, but his flesh (like most of us!) was weak. When God again requested him to save Israel, Gideon proceeded to ask for two more signs (the fleece).

Gideon needed to see God’s signs to trust Him… rather than just depending on His word. We need to be aware in our own life that our need to see doesn’t get in the way of our ability to trust in God and what He is going to do.

God knows our fears… He knows that we get afraid at times! But He also knows our hearts and wants to assure us that He really is in control! Sometimes we look for a sign, like Gideon. Sometimes God will give us signs… but sometimes, like He said to Moses, the sign will be AFTER the fact, when the task is accomplished.

Gideon was talking to a man who claimed to be an angel of the Lord when we first meet him. Of course he would ask for a sign - he had to be sure it wasn’t someone just talking him into doing something rash! Fortunately for us, we already HAVE a visual sign of God’s promise to us - His Word! The Bible! We don’t need God physically here in the form of an angel or a man, we have His own words written down for us. If you have trouble listening to God’s word in the Bible, most likely you’d have just as much trouble listening to Him in the flesh. Or a visual sign. Or in someone coming back from the dead to tell you (Luke 16:31).

The key is to TRUST God. In order to Trust, you need to have that loving relationship with Him. You get that relationship with Him by spending TIME with Him, in prayer, in His word, in obedience.

Gideon was afraid, but He trusted God and took a step of obedience. God met him there, and took him through to GREAT victory against the Midianites!

Are you willing to take that step of obedience? Show God that you do trust Him, that you do have faith in Him… and God will continue to meet you & bring you through wherever He leads you.

God bless you!
