Pre-Season Episode #2 “What is Fear?”

Pre-Season Episode #2 “What is Fear?”

In this episode we will be discussing the big question: “What is fear?” It is important for us to first understand what fear is before we set out to overcome it.

Here is the definition according to dictionary.com:

Fear, noun.

  1. a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc., whether the threat is real or imagined; the feeling or condition of being afraid.
  2. a specific instance of or propensity for such a feeling: an abnormal fear of heights.
  3. concern or anxiety; solicitude: a fear for someone’s safety.
  4. reverential awe, esp. toward God.
  5. that which causes a feeling of being afraid; that of which a person is afraid: Cancer is a common fear.

Here is an acronym to understand what fear is:

  • False
  • Evidence
  • Appearing
  • Real

This definition now leads us to another question when dealing with fear…

Can fear be good or bad?” The answer: YES!

Bad fear is fear that comes from circumstance that don’t really exist or from escalated situations. This type of fear holds us back from doing what God has commanded us to do and in turn we lose out on the blessings that come from experiencing God.

Fear is good when it protects us from a real danger that we should avoid. Hopefully we are afraid of crossing a busy highway blindfolded. This kind of fear keeps us from getting hurt. It is a protective fear. The only problem is when our protection of ourselves wins over our seeking the LORD.

We are not promised an easy suffer-free life. We will experience trials and difficult situations that will lead to fear, but we will need to stand firm in our Faith and the promises of God.

I hope you will continue this journey with us to overcome fear!

God bless,

Jason & Heather Marshall

Of all the emotions Jesus experienced when He lived among us, was fear one of them?

LON & ZOE - we are so excited to have you aboard. let’s do battle together!!!

GW - awesome question. I actually just answered that in pre-season episode #5. Being an emotion I believe Jesus did experience fear, BUT just like the anger he had… it did NOT lead to sin!
